MAY 29, 2007TWENTY-SECOND MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. Board members present were Batcheller, Boykin, Clausen and Monson; Walish was absent. Staff members present were Karen James, Board Administrator, Loan Hensley, Assistant County Attorney, and Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board.
The Claims were approved as presented. Copy filed.
Meeting called to order.
Motion by Monson second by Boykin to approve the Board minutes of the May 22, 2007 meeting as submitted. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.
The Board approved the appointment of LaKim E. Burley, Assistant Director, Juvenile Detention Dept., $42,500/year effective 06/11/2007. Job vacancy posted 02/23/2007. Entry salary: $42,500/year. Copy filed.
The Board approved the reclassification of Sheila F. Grasz, Motor Vehicle Clerk II, County Treasurer Dept., $12.22/hour effective 06/21/2007. Per AFSCME Courthouse contract agreement, from Grade 4, Step 1 to Grade 4, Step 2. Copy filed.
The Board postponed a discussion of Woodbury County health insurance with Cathy Mengel, First Administrators, Incorporated, and Kurt Genrich, National Insurance Services, in regards to benefits to retired County employees.
Motion by Boykin second by Monson to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign a Resolution approving tax suspension for Shirley J. Spray, 1016 La Plante Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa. Carried 4-0.

RESOLUTION APPROVING PETITION FOR SUSPENSION OF TAXES
WHEREAS, Shirley J. Spray, is the titleholder of property located at 1016 La Plante Ave., City of Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, and legally described as follows:
Parcel #894814387009
Lots Five & Six (5 & 6) Block Four(4) Edgewater 2nd Addition, City of Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa
WHEREAS, Shirley J. Spray as titleholder of the aforementioned real estate have petitioned the Board of Supervisors for a suspension of taxes pursuant to the 1997 Iowa Code section 427.9, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors recognizes from documents provided that the petitioner is unable to provide to the public revenue; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors hereby grants the request for a suspension of taxes, and hereby directs the Woodbury County Treasurer to so record the approval of this tax suspension for this property.

Motion by Monson second by Boykin to receive the appointment of Oscar Sanchez, 2218 Lafayette Street, Sioux City, Iowa to the office of Woodbury County Extension Council Member, to fill a vacancy for the office previously held by Kris Posey, until the General Election in 2008. Carried 4-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Monson to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign a Utility Accommodation Permit submitted by Frontier Communications of Iowa, Incorporated, per recommendation by the County Engineer. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.
The Board discussed burial spaces at City cemeteries.
Motion by Batcheller second by Monson to approve the proposal by the City of Sioux City for burials of $200.00 for opening and closing costs and $250.00 per space as needed. Carried 4-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Monson to approve and receive for signatures a Resolution thanking and commending Linda G. Shelton for her years of service to Woodbury County. Carried 4-0.

LINDA G. SHELTON
FOR HER SERVICE TO WOODBURY COUNTY
WHEREAS, Linda G. Shelton has capably served Woodbury County as an employee of the Woodbury County Treasurers Office for thirty-four years; and
WHEREAS, the service given by Linda G. Shelton as a Woodbury County employee, has been characterized by her dedication to the best interests of the citizens of Woodbury County; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF WOODBURY COUNTY, IOWA that the undersigned members of this Board thanks and commends Linda G. Shelton for her years of service to Woodbury County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the wish of all those signing below that the future hold only the best for this very deserving person, Linda G. Shelton.

A public hearing was held at 10:30 a.m. for budget amendment #1 for the current County budget for fiscal year 2007.
The Chairman called on anyone wishing to be heard.
Motion by Boykin second by Batcheller to close the public hearing. Carried 4-0.
Motion by Boykin second by Monson to approve budget amendment #1 for the current County budget, fiscal year 2007. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.
The Chairman asked if there were any individuals or groups wishing to make a presentation of items not on the agenda or Supervisors concerns.
The Board adjourned the regular meeting until June 5, 2007.
