JANUARY 2, 2004 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, January 2, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. Board members present were Batcheller, Boykin, Clausen, Walish and Welte. Staff members present were Karen James, Board Administrative Coordinator, Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board, and John Sullivan, Board Legal Counsel.
Meeting called to order.
Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve the appointment of Maurice Welte as Chairman for the 2004 session. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Boykin to approve the Board meeting minutes of December 23, 2003 as submitted. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve the minutes of the Executive Session of December 23, 2003 as submitted. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Walish second by Welte to approve the appointment of G. R. Batcheller as Vice Chairman for the 2004 session. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Walish second by Clausen to approve the appointment of County Engineer, Richard Storm. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Walish to approve the appointment of County Medical Examiner, Dr. Thomas Carroll. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Walish second by Boykin to approve Larry Clausen as County Representative to the Third Judicial District, Department of Correctional Services. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve the appointment of Kerby Weber as County Weed Commissioner. Carried 5-0.
Motion by Boykin second by Batcheller to conduct a contest to select the official newspapers for Woodbury County from The Sioux City Journal, The Sioux Valley News, The Moville Record and The Sergeant Bluff Advocate. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.
Motion by Clausen second by Boykin to approve and authorize payment of vendor for the replacement of the water main and stop box valve on 7th Street in front of the Courthouse from the infrastructure fund. Carried 4-1, Welte opposed. Copy filed.
Motion by Boykin second by Walish to approve and authorize payment of vendor for the replacement of the roof damaged at the Climbing Hill substation from the infrastructure fund. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.
Motion by Clausen second by Batcheller to refer the proposals for furnishings for Social Services Department to the Social Services Department for review and recommendation. Carried 5-0.
The Chairman asked if there were any individual or group wishing to make a presentation of items not on the agenda or Supervisors concerns.
Motion by Boykin second by Walish to go into Executive Session per Iowa Code Section 20.17(3). Carried 5-0 on a roll call vote.
Motion by Batcheller second by Boykin to go out of Executive Session. Carried 5-0 on a roll call vote.
The Board adjourned the special meeting.
