June 20, 2002-SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 9:00 AM. Board members present were Batcheller, Boykin, Clausen, Walish and Welte. Also present were Patrick Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board, Doug Phillips, Attorney with Klass Law Firm, and Joy Caudron, Administrative Assistant.
Meeting called to order
Motion by Batcheller second by Walish to approve the Board minutes of the June 11, 2002 board meeting as submitted. Carried 3-0. Boykin and Clausen abstained.
Motion by Boykin second by Walish to go into Executive Session per Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c). Carried 5-0 on roll call vote.
Mr. Gill excused himself.
Motion by Boykin second by Welte to go out of Executive Session. Carried 5-0 on roll call vote.
Five minute recess.
Motion by Clausen second by Boykin that because a federal jury has found Woodbury County Auditor Recorder Patrick Gill to have created a sexually hostile work environment and awarded damages in the amount of $25,000 against the County for its failure to remedy the situation, this matter be referred to the office of the Attorney General for consideration of whether statutory removal proceedings are appropriate. Failed 2-3 on roll call vote, Batcheller, Welte and Walish voting no.
Motion by Batcheller second by Welte on July 2, 2002 request that Mr. Gill be at a Board session, open or closed as a personnel issue, and to take Board action on what is expected for Mr. Gill to do. Carried 5-0 on a roll call vote.
The Board adjourned the Special Meeting until the next Regular Meeting on June 25, 2002.
