AUGUST 13, 2001SEVENTH MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Monday, August 13, 2001 at 9:00 A.M. Board members present were Boykin, Clausen, Batcheller, and Welte; Walish was absent. Staff members present were Karen James, Board Administrative Coordinator, Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board.

The Claims were approved as presented. Copy filed.

Meeting called to order.

Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve the Board minutes of August 7, 2001 as submitted. Carried 4-0.

The Board approved the appointment of Brett P. Lambert, Equipment Operator, Secondary Roads Dept., @$13.86/hr., effective 8-15-01. Job Vacancy Posted: 1-24-01. Entry Level Salary: $13.86. Copy filed.

The Board approved the separation of Phil G. Hane, Jr., Temporary Summer Laborer, Secondary Roads, effective 8-10-01. End of Temporary Work. Copy filed.

The Board approved the separation of Chris E. Koehn, Temporary Summer Laborer, Secondary Roads, effective 8-17-01. End of Temporary Work. Copy filed.

The Board approved the separation of Cole J. Dixon, Temporary Summer Laborer, Secondary Roads, effective 8-17-01. End of Temporary Work. Copy filed.

The Board approved the separation of Bernie J. Thomas, Temporary Summer Laborer, Secondary Roads, effective 8-22-01. End of Temporary Work. Copy filed.

The Board approved the separation of Neva J. Bean, Clerk III/Bookkeeper, County Sheriffs Dept., effective 12-31-01. Retirement. Copy filed.

Motion by Clausen second by Welte to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the authorization to initiate hiring process for a Clerk III/Bookkeeper, County Sheriffs Dept. Entry Level AFSCME Cthouse.: $12.17/hour. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve a request by retiree, Don Torgerson, former Siouxland District Health Department employee, to remain on county health insurance at his own expense for family coverage. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Clausen second by Welte to authorize the Chairman to sign Right of Way Agreement No. 2002 C-015 with the Iowa Department of Transportation concerning replacement of a bridge over West Fork of Little Sioux River near Holly Springs, Project No. STPN-982-0(22)2J-97. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Welte second by Batcheller to authorize the Chairman to sign an agreement with City of Correctionville to use Secondary Road Department Equipment. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Batcheller second by Welte to authorize the Chairman to sign a Utility Accommodation Permit submitted by Kuehl & Payer Ltd. on behalf of the City of Sloan, per recommendation of the County Engineer. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Batcheller second by Clausen to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign Notice to Terminate Farm Tenancy. Carried 4-0. Copy filed.

The Chairman asked if there were any individual or group wishing to make a presentation of items not on the agenda or Supervisors concerns.

The Board hosted architect presentations in the Courthouse basement for Jail QBS Process: Selection of Architect.

FEH Associates, Architects & Engineers, gave a presentation at 9:30 A.M.

RML Architects, LLC, gave a presentation at 10:45 A.M.

The Board recessed for lunch.

Shaughnessy Fickel and Scott Architects gave a presentation at 1:30 P.M.

Neumann Monson Wictor Architects gave a presentation at 2:45 P.M.

The Board discussed the presentations.

Motion by Clausen second by Welte to narrow the selection list to RML Architects, LLC and Neumann Monson Wictor Architects and to arrange site visits to projects of these firms. Carried 4-0.

The Board adjourned the regular meeting until August 21, 2001.
